Smokey Robinson re-records hits as duets

WITH A LITTLE HELP FROM HIS FRIENDS: "Smokey and Friends" is out today. Photo: Associated Press

LOS ANGELES (AP) — Smokey Robinson says he looks at people like John Legend and he realizes “the future of show business is in good hands.” Maybe it’s because Robinson heard Legend do a live version of Robinson’s song “Quiet Storm.”

Robinson liked it so much he asked Legend to sing it with him on Robinson’s new album, “Smokey and Friends.”

Robinson and Mary J. Blige duet on “Being With You,” he pairs up with Elton John for “The Tracks of My Tears,” and he teams with Steven Tyler for “You’ve Really Got A Hold On Me.”

Other “friends” with Robinson include James Taylor, Cee-Lo, Miguel and Sheryl Crow.

“Smokey and Friends” is out today.
