To wash the taste of the recent Snowmageddon out of our souls, I thought we try a little something different, so I went with Koko Brown, from Kona Brewing Company in Hawaii.  It’s brewed with toasted coconut.  Honestly, I was a bit hesitant with the coconut in there, but it turned out really good.  You can taste it right up front, but it doesn’t over power.  There’s just that slightly sweet, slightly nutty, slightly roasty flavor and then it fades into the some solid maltiness.  The finish on this one is a little roasty, and nutty with some toffee notes pulling through it all.

Over all this is a nice little twist on a nut brown ale and it doesn’t go overboard with the coconut gimmick.

Ryan’s Score: 8.1

Shane’s Score: 7.5

My Score: 7.5

We all liked it.  We’d all recommend it. We’d all drink it again.

Especially if you drank it with a Rosati’s BBQ Chicken Pizza with Pineapple.  The sweetness of the pineapple and the smoky goodness from the BBQ sauce goes really well the the sweetness of the coconut and malt of Koko Brown as well as the nutty, smoky, toffee flavor.

This is a really good combo.
