On Tap 2/28/14: Mecha Hopzilla

On Tap is brought to you by Rosati’s Pizza, 701 S. Gregory, Urbana, IL.  217-328-2334.

Today’s beer comes all the way from New Orleans, Louisiana and the Nola Brewing Company.  A quick side note:  I had the chance to talk with the president and founder of Nola Brewing, Kirk Coco.  He has put together a really nice little brewery down in New Orleans and they make a fabulous product.  You reall need to make the Nola Brewing Company a stop on your next trip to New Orleans.  OK, back to the beer.

I brought back some Mecha Hopzilla from Nola, and let me tell you, this thing lives up to it’s name.  We all found it really well balanced.  Shane being our hop head, loved it.  But eve Ryan and I found that it was so well made we really liked.  There’s pleny of aroma as soon as you open the can, and the flavor backs that up. There’s really good hops flavor, with a grapefruite vibe going through out.

Ryan’s Rating:  7.5

My Ratin:  8.0

Shane’s Rating: 9.5

Bottom line, we all really liked this beer.  Shane calls this his number two favorite IPA he’s ever had.  We paired this awesome beer up with Rosati’s Buffalo Chicken Pizza.  This time it was on the double dough and it proved to be a perfect compliment to the Mecha Hopzilla.

Below you’ll find the link to my interview with Kirk Coco from NOLA.  Again, this is a must stop on your next visit to New Orleans.  I don’t care if you’re there for Mardi Gras, or an overnight layover, you’ve got to hit this place up.  Super nice folks and super nice beers.  Just click the Tap Room pic and you’re there…
