WATCH: National Men Make Dinner Day

Thursday is National Men Make Dinner Day. If you’ve got a man that doesn’t really cook (grilling doesn’t count) this could be a challenging day for him.

But you deserve a nice dinner from your man, so we went to see Steven from Michael’s Catering, to make a dish that even the most kitchen-averse man can make.

Shopping list

  • Fettucini
  • Butter
  • Extra Virgin Olive Oil
  • 1 shallot
  • 2 cloves garlic
  • 1/2 pound of shrimp
  • red pepper flakes
  • dry white wine (chardonnay or pinot grigio, nothing fancy)
  • 1 lemon
  • 1 bunch flat-leaf Italian parsley.
  • Grated parmesan cheese.

Recipe

  • Boil heavily salted water
  • Add 8oz pasta
  • Cook until Al Dente (pasta should feel firm but not crunchy when you bite into it
  • Drain and set aside
  • Mince garlic and shallot
  • In a large pan over medium heat, melt 2 tablespoons of butter and two tablespoons of extra virgin olive oil
  • Add garlic and shallot to the pan stirring occasionally
  • Add a pinch of red pepper flake (go easy, use more if you like spice)
  • When garlic and shallot are sizzling add your shrimp. Add salt & pepper to taste
  • Cook until shrimp are pink and somewhat firm
  • Add the juice of 1/2 a lemon (pro-tip: roll the lemon on the countertop with a medium amount of pressure with your palm to get the most juice out of the lemon)
  • Add 1/4 cup of wine
  • Add cooked pasta to the pan and stir until sauce coats the pasta
  • Plate and add fresh chopped parsley to the top. Add parmesan cheese to taste.
