ST. JOSEPH, Ill. (Chambana Today) — Drivers in eastern Champaign County should prepare for detours and delays beginning Monday, as the Illinois Department of Transportation (IDOT) begins repairs on the County Road 2500E bridge over Interstate 74, just east of St. Joseph.

The bridge will be closed to all traffic for approximately four weeks, according to IDOT officials. Crews will be performing structural repairs as part of a broader statewide infrastructure improvement initiative.

Motorists who regularly use this stretch are strongly encouraged to find alternative routes and plan for extra travel time, especially during peak commuting hours.

The bridge closure is expected to impact both local residents and regional traffic moving between rural parts of the county and the I-74 corridor. No detour routes were formally announced, but local roads such as County Road 2400E and Route 150 may serve as alternate connections.

IDOT emphasized patience and caution in work zones, noting that these repairs are part of a multi-year initiative to improve over 3,200 miles of roadway and approximately 9 million square feet of bridge deck statewide. For updates on this project and other closures across Illinois, residents can visit idot.illinois.gov.
