Guidelines for Yard Waste Disposal

  • Use 30-gallon paper bags only—plastic bags are not accepted.

  • Branches and twigs can be bundled with non-metallic twine. Each bundle should be no larger than 2 inches in diameter, 3.5 feet in length, and 18 inches in diameter overall.

  • Leave bags and bundles at least 5 feet away from obstacles such as mailboxes, trees, and light poles.

  • Collections are free for all residential properties within city limits.

For residents uncertain about their zone or collection schedule, the City’s online interactive map is available on the Public Works or Yard Waste Collection web page. Those with hard-to-dispose items or living outside the city may find options at the Landscape Recycling Center (1210 E. University Avenue, Urbana, 217‑344‑5323).
