CHAMPAIGN COUNTY, IL (Chambana Today) — The Champaign County Sheriff’s Office has released its 2025 Annual Report, outlining key statistics and accomplishments from the past year. Sheriff Dustin Heuerman shared the report, highlighting both the department’s challenges and successes in public safety.

Key Highlights from the 2025 Annual Report:

  • Increase in Calls for Service:

    • Calls for service rose to 14,466 in 2025, up from 13,938 in 2024, signaling a growing demand for law enforcement services.

  • Decrease in Arrests:

    • Arrests dropped to 557 in 2025 (down from 590 in 2024). The top offenses were:

      • 15% for arrest on warrants

      • 9% for domestic battery

      • 8% for driving under the influence of alcohol (DUI)

  • Increase in Notices to Appear:

    • The Sheriff’s Office issued 243 Notices to Appear for non-traffic-related offenses, up from 197 in 2024.

  • Traffic Enforcement:

    • 3,773 traffic stops conducted, resulting in:

      • 2,176 citations

      • 2,251 warnings

      • 117 DUI arrests

  • Decrease in Traffic Accidents:

    • The department investigated 409 traffic accidents in 2025, down from 448 in 2024. This included:

      • 117 accidents with injuries

      • 5 fatalities

  • Illegal Firearms Seized:

    • A total of 14 firearms were seized during criminal investigations and traffic stops, including 9 handguns and 5 rifles.

  • Shooting Incidents Decrease:

    • The number of shooting incidents dropped slightly, from 8 in 2024 to 7 in 2025.

  • Jail Intakes and Population:

    • Jail intakes decreased to 3,910 in 2025 (down from 4,193 in 2024).

    • Top felony charges:

      • 13% for aggravated battery

      • 8% for aggravated DUI

    • Top misdemeanor charges:

      • 17% for domestic battery

      • 15% for DUI-alcohol

    • The average daily jail population decreased to 214, down from 235 in 2024.

  • Training and Professional Development:

    • Sheriff’s deputies participated in over 4,549 hours of training, ensuring ongoing skill development and readiness to serve the community.
