CHAMPAIGN, IL (Chambana Today) – Big changes are coming to the Champaign DMV as Illinois Secretary of State Alexi Giannoulias announced it will be converted into a “DMV+” facility — part of a statewide initiative to modernize and streamline DMV services.

Champaign will become the fifth DMV+ site in Illinois. These upgraded facilities are designed to reduce wait times, offer enhanced services, and bring critical Secretary of State functions to local communities — services that were previously only accessible in downtown Chicago or Springfield.

The upgraded facility, located at 2012 Round Barn Road, will undergo renovations beginning this weekend and continuing through early August. The DMV will remain open during construction, though customers are encouraged to use online services when possible.

“Our goal is to improve the customer experience and eliminate unnecessary travel and delays,” Giannoulias said. “DMV+ brings more services directly to the people of Illinois.”

The DMV+ model includes a “One-Stop-Shop” system, allowing customers to complete multiple tasks — from renewing licenses to registering vehicles — at a single service counter. Staff are cross-trained to assist with a wide variety of needs, improving workflow and efficiency.

The new facility will also offer:

  • Business Services: On-site filings, certifications, and expedited services for business owners.
  • Index Services: In-person processing of apostilles and foreign-use documents.
  • Personnel Services: Employment testing and application resources for job seekers.
  • Administrative Hearings: Informal hearings for residents with suspended licenses seeking reinstatement.

Giannoulias emphasized that DMV+ is part of a broader plan to modernize the Secretary of State’s office and bring government services closer to home.
