CHAMPAIGN, IL (Chambana Today) — The Champaign Police Department is investigating a shooting that left an 18-year-old man injured Monday night.

Officers were dispatched around 10:04 p.m. on April 6 to the 400 block of West Beardsley Avenue following reports of gunfire. When they arrived, they located a Champaign man suffering from an apparent gunshot wound to the leg.

Police and the Champaign Fire Department provided emergency medical care at the scene before the victim was transported to a local hospital. He was later treated and released and is continuing to recover, according to authorities.

Preliminary findings indicate the man was outside when one or more unknown suspects opened fire, striking him. Investigators say the motive for the shooting remains unclear. One nearby residence also sustained property damage during the incident.

Officers are continuing to canvass the area for witnesses and surveillance footage that may aid the investigation. No arrests have been made, and the case remains active.

Anyone with information is urged to contact Champaign Police or submit an anonymous tip through Crime Stoppers.
