CHAMPAIGN, Ill (Chambana Today) — City of Champaign Township Supervisor Kyle Patterson announced Tuesday evening that he will step down from his role later this month, citing ongoing health issues and the stress of the position.

Patterson said his final day as supervisor will be November 18. He expressed gratitude for the opportunity to serve his hometown and praised township staff for their dedication. “It was an honor to serve my hometown and lead a staff that operates such important programs for our most vulnerable residents,” Patterson said. “However, the stress and pressure of this job have negatively impacted my health, and I must step away to take better care of myself.”

Patterson’s resignation comes after recent tension with township board members over budget concerns, including increased spending for the Strides Shelter and projections that its funding could run out by February 2026. Patterson, who began his term in January 2024, was elected to replace Andy Quarnstrom. He previously served on the Champaign County Board and worked as a case manager for Urbana’s Cunningham Township.
