Crime Stoppers seeks help identifying suspect in Walmart theft attempt

CHAMPAIGN, IL (Chambana Today) — Champaign County Crime Stoppers is asking for the public’s help identifying a man who attempted to steal nearly $900 in merchandise from a Champaign Walmart last summer.

The incident occurred July 14, 2025, at around 2:00 p.m. at the Walmart located at 2610 N. Prospect Ave. An unknown male entered the store, filled a cart with merchandise, and proceeded to the self-checkout area where he scanned and bagged the items while appearing to make payment.

Loss prevention staff confronted the man at the exit. He abandoned the cart and fled to a waiting vehicle in the parking lot. Staff recovered nearly $900 worth of merchandise.

The suspect is described as a white male, approximately 35 to 40 years old, with a beard and several arm tattoos. He is pictured below.

He was last seen wearing a blue and white Kimes Ranch ballcap, a black and green shirt, and black pants. He fled in a red four-door Chevrolet sedan driven by an unknown male. The vehicle is pictured below.
