DANVILLE, Ill. (Chambana Today) — A Georgetown man was taken into custody early Friday after an armed standoff at a residence in the 2900 block of East Main Street, according to Danville Police.

Officers were called to the home around 2:13 a.m. on November 14 after a resident reported that 36-year-old Marquil L. Brown was inside the home, armed with a handgun, and acting erratically. The resident asked police to remove Brown from the property.

Police say Brown refused to cooperate or leave the home when officers attempted to make contact. The department’s Emergency Response Unit was activated and tried to negotiate with him, but Brown remained unresponsive. ERU members eventually entered the home and took him into custody without further incident.

A search of the residence turned up the handgun described by the complainant. Police later confirmed Brown is a convicted felon currently on parole, making possession of the weapon illegal.

Brown was taken to the Danville Public Safety Building on preliminary charges of unlawful possession of a weapon by a felon, aggravated unlawful use of a weapon, obstructing justice, and criminal trespass to residence.

Police remind the public that charges are accusations, and Brown is presumed innocent unless proven guilty. The investigation is ongoing. Anyone with information is asked to contact Danville Police at 217-431-2250 or Vermilion County Crime Stoppers at 217-446-TIPS.
