DANVILLE, IL (Chambana Today) — Runners, walkers and families are invited to power up in downtown Danville as the city prepares to host the Danville Super 5K on May 1.

The event, part of the city’s “First Fridays” series, will kick off at 6 p.m. from Temple Plaza, with registration beginning at 5 p.m. Organizers say the race is designed to be a fun, inclusive experience for participants of all ages and fitness levels.

This year’s theme draws inspiration from classic video game characters, encouraging racers to dress up and take part in a costume contest at 5:30 p.m. ahead of the race. Creative outfits, from recognizable characters to original mashups, are welcome.

The course will take participants through downtown Danville and into the Walnut Parking Garage, featuring Mario-themed “levels” along the route. Organizers say the design is meant to add an interactive element to the traditional 5K experience.

In addition to racing, community members can participate as part of “Power-Up Teams,” cheering on runners and helping create a lively atmosphere throughout the course.

The event is open to runners, walkers and those with strollers, with registration priced at $5 for children under 5 and $12 for all others. To get tickets and sign up, click here: First Friday Events: Super 5K.
