RANTOUL, Ill. (Chambana Today) — A beloved central Illinois attraction is getting national attention. Hardy’s Reindeer Ranch in Rantoul has been chosen to represent Illinois on Good Morning America as part of the show’s “50 States in 50 Weeks: America the Beautiful” series, which highlights unique places and organizations making a positive impact in their communities. The segment is scheduled to air Friday, Nov. 21 between 6 and 8 a.m. on ABC.

Founded in 1995 by Julie and Mark Hardy, the ranch began with just two reindeer purchased to help draw customers to their Christmas tree farm. Two years later, the couple traveled to Alaska and returned with 13 more reindeer — transported in special crates aboard a 747. As the Hardys like to joke, the trip proved that “reindeer really do fly.”

Today, the ranch features 20 reindeer, a barn gift shop, pedal karts, a paintball gallery, and a 10-acre themed corn maze designed each year by Mark. During the holiday season, visitors can purchase cut Christmas trees. The ranch has become a regional tourism draw, hosting groups from across the U.S. and internationally for reindeer encounters and western-style barbecues in its banquet area.

“As we celebrate our 30th anniversary, we can’t think of a better way to spend it than showcasing our special reindeer with Good Morning America,” said Julie Hardy. “This farm and these animals have been a labor of love, and to be able to share that with this audience is incredibly special. We are very honored.”

Community members are encouraged to tune in to Friday’s broadcast. The ranch will not be open to the public during filming, but it will reopen for regular hours at 10 a.m. For more information, contact Hardy’s Reindeer Ranch at 217-893-3407.
