WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. (Chambana Today) — Illinois women’s basketball returns to Big Ten action today when the Fighting Illini travel to Mackey Arena to face Purdue, continuing a season that has already produced one of the program’s strongest starts.
Illinois enters the matchup at 11-1 overall and 1-0 in conference play, while Purdue stands at 8-4 and 0-1 in the Big Ten. Tipoff is set for 11 a.m. CT, with the game airing on Big Ten Network and available via the FOX Sports App.
Under fourth-year head coach Shauna Green, the Illini have built momentum behind balanced scoring and strong rebounding. Berry Wallace leads the team at 17.3 points per game and has already recorded five 20-point performances this season. Freshman forward Cearah Parchment has emerged as a key presence in the paint, averaging 10.8 points and a team-best 7.9 rebounds while posting four double-doubles.
Illinois’ backcourt has also played a major role in the team’s success. Gretchen Dolan is averaging 14.6 points per game, while freshman Destiny Jackson has added playmaking and defense, highlighted by a season-high nine assists and five steals earlier this year.
Sunday’s contest carries added significance for the Illini. A victory would mark Illinois’ first win in West Lafayette since 2015 and extend the team’s current winning streak to 10 games. It would also improve Green’s already impressive road résumé, pushing Illinois to 47-11 in true road games under her leadership.
