DECATUR, Ill. (Chambana Today) — Seventy-eight proud 4-H members from DeWitt, Macon, and Piatt counties showcased their creativity, craftsmanship, and commitment during General Project Judging at the Illinois State Fair on August 9.

Held at the Orr Building, the event featured a wide range of projects—from animal science to visual arts—and drew families, fairgoers, and judges eager to see the talent on display. Throughout the day, exhibits remained open to the public, highlighting the youth’s innovation and hard work.

Several participants received top honors, including Grand Champion, Reserve Champion, and Inspire Awards—recognizing exceptional creativity or effort noted by judges.

“This program gives the kids so much more than a ribbon on the wall,” said Kendra Wallace, 4-H Program Coordinator. “4-H gives them skills and experiences that they will carry with them throughout their whole life. We could not be prouder of these 4-H members and their level of dedication to the program.”

Among those honored:

  • Elizabeth Cornett (Macon) and Lexi Merriman (DeWitt) – Animal Science Champions
  • Katie Cunningham (DeWitt) and Lucy Niebrugge (Macon) – Clothing and Textiles Champions
  • Case Wilson (DeWitt) – Foods and Nutrition Champion
  • Jake Bolsen (Macon) and Molly Niebrugge (Macon) – Visual Arts Champions
  • Dexter Watterson (DeWitt) – Robotics Champion
  • Emily Harrington (Piatt) – Plants and Soil Sciences Champion
