CHAMPAIGN, IL (Chambana Today) — Champaign Police Department have arrested a second juvenile in connection with a fatal shooting that occurred last month at Market Place Shopping Center.

Officers responded around 6:14 p.m. on March 21 to reports of a fight in the parking lot of the Market Place Shopping Center. During the altercation, at least one firearm was discharged, striking a 16-year-old victim.

Police and the Champaign Fire Department provided life-saving aid at the scene before the victim was transported to a local hospital, where they later died at 11:44 p.m.

A 15-year-old suspect was initially arrested following the incident. On April 2, authorities announced a second 15-year-old had been taken into custody on a warrant for aggravated battery with a firearm. Due to their age, no additional identifying information has been released.

Police say the investigation remains active and ongoing. Authorities are asking anyone who witnessed the incident or may have video footage to come forward. Tips can also be submitted anonymously through Crime Stoppers. Officials remind the public that all suspects are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
