Second teen arrested in February Champaign shooting

CHAMPAIGN, IL (Chambana Today) — Champaign police have arrested a second teenager in connection with a February 18, 2026, shooting that left a 26-year-old man with potentially life-threatening injuries.

Officers responded to reports of gunfire on Stratford Drive at 10:53 p.m. The victim was found in the 1600 block of Sangamon Drive, where police and fire personnel provided immediate medical assistance before he was transported to an area hospital.

A 17-year-old was arrested on March 19 during a court-authorized search, and on April 9, a 16-year-old was also taken into custody after another search warrant was executed. Both juveniles face charges related to the shooting, though their identities are protected under state law.

Police emphasize that the investigation is ongoing and are asking anyone with information to call 217-351-4545 or submit tips anonymously through Crime Stoppers at 217-373-8477 or online at 373tips.com.

Authorities remind the public that all individuals are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
