PEORIA, Ill. (Chambana Today) — The American Public Works Association (APWA) Illinois Chapter awarded Hanson Professional Services Inc. with the Public Works Project of the Year Award for the South Mahomet Road extension in Mahomet, Illinois. The award was presented during the APWA’s annual dinner on November 5 in Peoria.

Hanson received the prestigious honor in the Transportation Category for projects with a budget between $5 million and $25 million. The extension project, completed in 2024, was designed to alleviate traffic congestion and improve access for the Mahomet-Seymour Community Unit School District No. 3. It also opened new possibilities for area development.

The project involved constructing a new Norfolk Southern Corp. railroad crossing, building two roundabouts, and extending South Mahomet Road to Prairieview Road in a second phase. Hanson was responsible for project development studies, design plans, and construction specifications for both phases of the project.
