Springfield, IL (CAPITOL CITY NOW) – Springfield is in for women’s pro baseball. Lots and lots of women’s pro baseball.

Jamie Toole, chief storyteller of the stadium’s main tenant, the men’s college-league Springfield Lucky Horseshoes, said he’s confident the games will draw crowds. “They’re super-talented women. This isn’t like a promotion. These are the most bad-ass players on the planet,” Toole said at the league’s news conference Monday in Springfield. “And if you haven’t seen what’s happened in the WNBA, women are fantastic, and they can play at the elite level.”

If all of this reminds you of the movie A League of Your Own, you are not alone. Women’s baseball advocate Kat Williams (pictured), part of the league’s advisory board, remembered seeing the movie. “The credits started to roll, and Madonna started to sing, ‘This Used to Be My Playground,’” Williams said. “I couldn’t get up. I couldn’t leave. And eventually the lights came on, and there were about ten of us sitting there – most of them my age.”
