THE ROAD REPORT: More closures announced for Champaign-Urbana; plan accordingly

CHAMPAIGN-URBANA, IL (Chambana Today) – The Road Report is a helpful resource to keep your travels smooth and trouble-free. All projects are weather permitting.

East Main Street Lane closures

East Main Street will have the eastbound lane closed between Grove Street and South Cottage Grove Avenue beginning on Monday, November 24 at 7 a.m. until Friday, November 28, at 5 p.m. Please follow marked detour. Berg Tank Sewer & Septic will be doing work along East Main Street. Access will be maintained to all properties on East Main Street but through traffic will be prohibited.

Motorists are encouraged to drive carefully through this and all construction areas.

First Street Lane Closure (between Logan Street and Marshall Street)

In order to complete a sanitary sewer installation at 309 S. First Street, crews will close the southbound lane of First Street between Logan Street and Marshall Street.
The closure will begin on Monday, November 24, and will reopen on Monday, December 1. During the closure, northbound traffic will remain open. Southbound traffic will be detoured at Logan Street. Access will be maintained to all local properties.

John Street Road Closure (between Sixth Street and Wright Street) and Wright Street Road Closure (between Green Street and John Street)

In order to deliver and install a tower crane at Illini Hall (725 S. Wright Street), Williams Brothers Construction will implement the following closures:
• John Street road closure between Sixth Street and Wright Street
• Wright Street road closure between Green Street and John Street, except for local traffic and MTD bus traffic
The closures will occur on Monday, November 24, through Wednesday, November 26 between the hours of 7 a.m. and 4 p.m.

South Goodwin avenue closure

South Goodwin Avenue will be closed between West Green Street and West Illinois Street from 7a.m. on Saturday, November 22, to 7 a.m. on Wednesday, November 26. The University of Illinois with work along South Goodwin Avenue. Access will be maintained to all properties on South Goodwin Avenue during the project.

Springfield Avenue (IL Route 10) Lane Closure (between Duncan Road and Ginger Bend Drive)

In order to complete an emergency rail repair, crews have closed the eastbound lane of Springfield Avenue between Duncan Road and Ginger Bend Drive. The lane will reopen by 5 p.m. today, Wednesday, November 19. During the closure, eastbound traffic will be detoured; however, westbound traffic will remain open. Access will be maintained to all local properties.

University Avenue Lane Closure (between Randolph Street and Neil Street) and Randolph Street Lane Closure (between Park Street and University Avenue)

In order to clean windows at 100 W. University Avenue, Clean-Way Window Cleaning will close the following lanes of traffic:
Tuesday, November 25 – A westbound lane of University Avenue between Randolph Street and Neil Street will be closed. During the closure from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m., westbound traffic will be reduced to one lane.
Wednesday, November 26 – A northbound lane of Randolph Street between Park Street and University Avenue will be closed. During the closure from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m., northbound traffic will be reduced to one lane.

South Lynn Street Lane closure

South Lynn Street will have a lane closed at the intersection of Crestwood Drive from 7 a.m. on Monday, November 17, 2025, to 5 p.m. on Friday, November 21, 2025. Lanz Plumbing, Heating & Cooling, Inc. will work along South Lynn Street. Access will be maintained to all properties on South Lynn Street during the project.

South Lincoln Avenue & West Green Street Lane closures

South Lincoln Avenue and West Green Street will have a lane closed intermittently at the intersection of South Lincoln Avenue and West Green Street beginning on Monday, November 17, 2025, at 7 a.m. until Friday, November 25, 2025, at 5 p.m. Mid-Illinois Concrete, Inc. will be doing work along this intersection.

University Avenue Road Closure (between Chestnut Street and Market Street)

In order to perform a storm sewer repair, crews will be closing both westbound lanes of University Avenue between Chestnut Street and Market Street.

  • All westbound University Avenue traffic will merge into a single lane and follow a marked detour through downtown, rejoining University Avenue at its intersection with Neil Street.
  • Eastbound University Avenue traffic will not be affected by this closure.
  • All intersections along University Avenue will remain open to normal traffic patterns, except for southbound Chestnut Street, which will be restricted from turning westbound onto University Avenue.

Work is scheduled to begin at 7 a.m. on Monday, November 17, and is planned to be completed and reopened to traffic by 4 p.m. on Friday, November 21, weather permitting.

East Main Street Lane Shift

East Main Street will have traffic lanes shifted intermittently between North Smith Road and Dodson Drive South from 7a.m. on Tuesday, November 11, 2025, to 3 p.m. on Wednesday, November 26. Feutz Contractors, Inc. will construct a crosswalk for the Baker’s Lane Shared-Use Path project. Two lanes of traffic will be maintained, and access will be maintained to all properties on East Main Street during this period.

Larch Place closure

Larch Place will be closed between East Burkwood Drive and East Colorado Avenue beginning on Monday, November 10, 2025, at 7 a.m. until Friday, November 14, 2025, at 5 p.m. Cargo Sewer Repair & Cleaning will be doing sanitary work along Larch Place. Access will be maintained to all properties along Larch Place but no through traffic will be allowed during the project.
