Three Urbana schools locked down after nearby shooting

URBANA (Chambana Today) — A shooting in the 900 block of South Vine Street prompted a lockdown at three Urbana schools early Tuesday afternoon.

Urbana High School,Urbana Middle School, and the district’s Sixth Grade Center were all placed on lockdown as a precaution, following reports of gunfire in a nearby neighborhood.

As of 3:15 p.m., Urbana police remained on scene at an apartment complex near the shooting site. Part of the complex was cordoned off with crime scene tape, and law enforcement activity continued into the afternoon.

No further details about injuries or suspects have been released.
