CHAMPAIGN, Ill (Chambana Today) — Fire tore through a vacant single-story home in the 400 block of W. Eureka Street early Sunday morning, drawing a swift response from the Champaign Fire Department and raising questions about the cause of the blaze.

Crews were dispatched at 3:54 a.m. on August 10 after a neighbor reported visible flames. When firefighters arrived on scene, they encountered heavy smoke and fire engulfing the structure. According to officials, crews initially battled the flames from outside the home due to the intensity of the fire but were later able to move inside to complete extinguishment efforts.

Multiple hose lines were used to bring the fire under control, and crews worked efficiently to prevent the flames from spreading to nearby residences.

“The fire was intense when we arrived, but thanks to the quick work of our crews, we were able to contain it to the structure of origin,” said a department spokesperson.

The house was unoccupied at the time of the fire, and no injuries were reported among firefighters. The home sustained significant damage.

Investigators remained on scene throughout the morning working to determine the cause of the fire, which has not yet been identified.
