CHAMPAIGN, IL (Chambana Today) — Champaign police are investigating a shooting that left a woman with a minor injury Monday afternoon in the 1300 block of Honeysuckle Lane.

Officers were dispatched to the area at about 3:43 p.m. Feb. 2 after receiving a report of a shooting with injuries, according to a Champaign Police Department news release. Responding officers located a 26-year-old Champaign woman who reported she had been driving when an unknown person or persons opened fire, striking her vehicle multiple times.

Police said the woman suffered a minor injury that was not believed to have been directly caused by a bullet. She was evaluated at the scene by medical personnel and was not transported to a hospital for further treatment.

The suspects fled the area before officers arrived. In addition to damage to the woman’s vehicle, officers also found damage to a nearby residence, police said.

Officers canvassed the surrounding neighborhood for witnesses and potential video footage. Police are asking residents and businesses in the area who have exterior surveillance cameras to contact the department.

No arrests have been made, and the investigation remains ongoing.

Anyone with information is asked to call Champaign police at 217-351-4545. Tips may also be submitted anonymously to Crime Stoppers at 217-373-8477, online at 373tips.com, or through the P3 Tips mobile app. Crime Stoppers offers cash rewards for tips that lead to arrests, police said.
