These “New” movies look awfully familiar…

Paramount recently announced their planed movie releases for the next few years.  Here’s what they have in store for 2016.

  • Ben Hur
  • Beverly Hills Cop 4
  • Star Trek 3
  • Paranormal Activity 5
  • Transformers 5
  • G.I.Joe 3
  • Hansel & Gretel 2

So let me get this straight.  These are seven “new” movies.  One of them is a remake of a classic.  The other six are sequals.  I guess, Beverly Hills Cop 4 is technically going to be a sequel/reboot kind of like Transformers 4: Age of Extinction is a sequel/Reboot.

Look, I’m not trying to pour water on these guys plans, but is there anything new going on in Hollywood?  I’m completely down with Star Trek 3.  I think JJ Abrams has done a really good job with that property.

I’ve seen two Paranormal Activity movies (I think it’s just two, maybe three, but definitely not four of them.) and liked them well enough, but how much found footage of ghost hunting can there be in this story?

I saw the first Transformers movie.  I even saw G.I. Joe.  Possibly both of them.  I didn’t see Hansel and Gretel.  Did anybody see that one?  I guess Paramount thinks enough did to warrent another round of witch hunting.

But Beverly Hills Cop 4?  Really?  It’s been 20 years since number 3 and 30 years since the first one.  I just… I don’t know.  I guess I was hoping to see, I don’t know, something “new” here.  I guess technically all of these movies are “new” but still.

For some folks,  Ben Hur could be considered “new”.  It’s a classic after all, which means that anyone under the age of, I don’t know, 40 will probably think it is new.  So they’ve got that going for ’em.
